With Flex Lessons, Joseph's low key, relaxed, and extemporaneous style backed by his knowledge, experience and wonderful technique make the course videos joyful to watch. The courses feel like one is having a conversation with Joseph while working to eliminate potential problems and inefficiencies early, developing the piece as a whole, then adding performance touches to finish.
If your goal is to progress as rapidly as possible while enjoying your efforts, Joseph is the teacher you want. It has been my fortune to work with some excellent teachers over the years, and Joseph has helped me make the most progress in the shortest time. He is relaxed yet attentive - focused yet easy going - and forward thinking in his planning to keep his students progressing.
Joseph is highly experienced yet remains a student himself which keeps him strongly connected with his own pupils. The lineage of his pedagogy stresses the basics of technique that help his students progress at the quickest speed possible for each individual. He knows that life is short, time is valuable, and there is much music to be played!
Joseph has been on the forefront of distance learning since 2017. That means his remote teaching isn't a reaction to COVID 19, it is a well planned and well executed long-term strategy for learning more efficiently using the always improving tools we are fortunate to have. And it works.
He is also on the forefront of technology. With proper equipment and connectivity at the student's location, remote lessons with Joseph are like having him in your own home. The video and audio fidelity are both amazing. He takes full advantage of that to carefully listen, evaluate, analyze and demonstrate during each lesson. In my experience, nothing gets by him as he works to develop the most nuanced musical concepts.
Joseph is a hard worker and critical thinker. He considers many avenues to help people progress as quickly as their desire, time and potential allow. I have taught in another area of human endeavor for over 40 years. Even with that experience, I learn something about teaching, in addition to music, in every lesson.
