Fons Marketplace Profile: Simple and Effective Lead Generation for Music Teachers
- Joseph @ Flex Lessons
- Reviews, Piano Teaching
Fons is my preferred scheduling and billing application, by a mile. It also has another lesser known feature that is worth exploring called Fons Marketplace. This simple and effective lead generation tool can be used to connect music studios and other similar businesses with people who are looking for these types of services.
Since Fons now offers a Marketplace Subscription separate from their other offerings, and since I have a Fons Marketplace Profile, I thought I would take a few moments to share how I use this wonderful feature in my business.
By the way, if you use my links, I may receive a commission. With that said, I have been personally using Fons for quite a while now and I am very proud to endorse them. If you get use out of this information, you can support this site using one of my links.
Fons Marketplace
Fons Marketplace is an alternative to other lead generation tools such as Thumbtack, TakeLessons, or the Forte Marketplace. The main advantage of Fons Marketplace is that Fons does not charge for lead generation. Instead, you pay an inexpensive monthly fee.
Each Fons user can create a public listing page that can be used to generate leads and interest for their business. This profile page is referred to as the Fons Marketplace Profile.
With a Fons Marketplace Profile, you can have an online presence with search engine discoverability along with some lead generation for really cheap! Of course, you can still get Fons Pro if you still need those other features.
This post is going to cover some thoughts behind how you might want to organize your Fons Marketplace profile and the sort of content that you may wish to include, based on what seems to be working for me.
Keep in mind, this is intended to serve as high-level inspiration for you. If you need specific technical details, see this article from the help section of the Fons website.
How I Use Fons Marketplace
Since I already use Fons Pro to handle my scheduling and billing, my Marketplace Profile serves as the most direct hub for clients to get into my system. I could link directly to my appointment options, but I have chosen to link to my Marketplace Profile instead.
The reason for this is that the Marketplace Profile can be used as a place to qualify leads and include additional information that you want people to know BEFORE they click your booking link or contact you. This makes it more likely that the right client is the one that contacts you.
By the way, you can view my Marketplace Profile by clicking here.
On my profile, for example, you’ll find all of the minimum setup requirements and booking instructions that one would need to be aware of when considering taking online piano lessons with me. If a person wants to learn more, I simply direct them to an information page my other website. This other page directs back to my Marketplace Profile as the main call to action.
On a side note, the Marketplace Profile is robust enough that it could serve as your main hub even without another website. There is plenty of space for text and it’s quite convenient to have everything your client would need in one location.
Exploring the Marketplace Profile Features
Let’s take a look at the different parts of the Marketplace Profile page.
The first thing that you will see is the title for the page along with your logo and a “verified badge.” I think this is all pretty self explanatory, although I should mention that the page title does play an important role in attracting the right client.
You will also see your location and whether or not you accept online appointments. If you are a Fons Pro user, you will see the Book Appointment option.
Below that, you will see a list of services offered. This is another important place to include your search engine optimized keywords.
In the body of the page, you can include text, headings, links, and any other content that is relevant to your business. Although it’s normally helpful to be brief in your descriptions, this is where we really need a good bit of text for the various search engines to pick up on what you’re about and what you offer.
At the bottom of the page, you will see your staff profiles with a place for an image and a small description of what you do. Since I am the main service provider for Flex Lessons, I use this as another opportunity to offer a high-level description of what I do and who I am looking for.
Your Ideal Client
One of the best suggestions that I can give offer you when using the Fons Marketplace Profile is to know who your ideal client is and niche down a bit using targeted keywords.
For example, I am looking for piano students who are adults and are primarily looking for classical instruction. This narrows down my potential client significantly, and my Fons Profile includes content with this in mind.
Once you have a good sense of who you are trying to attract, create some headings and start writing! Since you already have a page title, you will want to use H2 headings followed by relevant text throughout your page.
If you need to break anything down further, you can use smaller headings. It’s very important that your page is well organized and readable.
Marketplace Profile Content Suggestions
If you aren’t quite sure what to write, I have a few suggestions for you. Some of this is based off of my own page.
You might start by creating a section that describes yourself, your business, and what you do, and perhaps, who you are looking for. This is a great place for a relevant image if you can link to one.
If there are any requirements or conditions that are applicable to your client, you should create a section on this. For example, a person studying piano with me has to have a keyboard or piano of a certain size along with a few other things. List these sorts of things out.
If you have multiple booking options or meet & greet sessions, you can create sections on each of these things along with any related instructions.
Your Marketplace Profile is your chance to make sure that your client knows everything they need to know about working with you before they contact you. This is the reason I choose to link to my Marketplace Profile instead of anything else when I am sharing my booking links.
Also, when you write about these sorts of things, the search engines will start to associate you with the niche that you are writing about. This very much works in your favor!
