2. Duncombe "Sonatina in C Major"

This sonatina helps students learn how to establish a consistent pulse when playing triplets.

3. Gurlitt "Scherzo"

This piece features several chords, position changes, dotted rhythms, and emphasized notes where they would normally not be expected.

5. Schumann "Melody"

Schumann's Melody features a lyrical melody set against a running eighth note accompaniment. This is a great piece for helping students develop their legato touch.

6. Attwood "Sonatina in G Major"

This sonatina presents several challenges with its fast pace, frequent position changes, and Alberti-bass accompaniment.

8. Latour "Sonatina in C Major"

This sonatina presents a great opportunity to improve a student’s scale technique in the right hand. The second section requires a precise left hand technique which would otherwise be prone to overplaying.

9. Beethoven "Écossaise"

This lively dance-like piece is very well-known and often played at recitals. It requires the correct application of several pianistic gestures to play convincingly.
